You would not believe the weather here. We have been here approx. ten days and only had two full days sun bathing, that being the yardstick to measure holiday happiness. No matter. Yesterday had conditions that closed the islands two airports. We sat in the on-site café playing scrabble! the rain chucked it down flooding the pool area, the wind bringing down large tree branches onto the parking area. It was like a UK summer holiday on a camp-site. It has a certain charm. Those holidaymakers who braved the storm came back dressed in yellow and pink plastic raincoats. Trendsetters. So, to recap today, there hasn't been a cloud in the sky with a nice wee breeze. We hear it's going to be nice again tomorrow. Wednesday however we'll be back to mega rain storms. We also hear the UK is going to be hit with arctic weather and snow storms. Anyone reading this may not have much sympathy in light of the weather you are about to have, but hey, live and let live!

We are here in Tenerife! You have no idea the saga that got us here though. Our little alien friends who we told under no circumstances were coming with us, got our baggage thrown off the plane. I’m not sure how, but we were waiting to fly, the plane had been warming its engine for about 15 mins, the air- conditioned fog that ascends lulling you into flight mode had passed round the cabin a couple of times when John says, that’s our luggage being taken off the plane. I said to him not to be so daft, they would only do that under suspicion of a bomb or something, and the security we went through to get airside, no way. Just as I was going to waffle about John’s paranoia I see a wee green limb hanging out of what really did look like our suitcases on the back of a trailer heading in the direction of the airport building. John quickly told the cabin crew what was happening, excluding the aliens, the upshot being we were held up for an hour while the baggage handlers sorted out our cases. John was quite happy as he moved into the cockpit with the pilot, hoping for a wee shot, maybe just a wee fly down the coast to say Whitley Bay and back, nobody would notice, what d’ya think? We could introduce you to a couple of aliens we know. The real deal. Not the kind you see on telly. We were held up after we landed in Tenerife and literally came off the plane as other passengers were alighting. We had another holdup on the coach transfer to our digs, the coach we should have had departed two hours ago. We get to our digs and have the wrong apartment. John decided he wanted to phone a taxi to go somewhere else. I asked where he wanted to go. He said he didn’t know. Now, by then, I quite understood where he was coming from. He was at the end of his tether. I had ran out of being nice juice at the airport waiting for the transfer. Anyway, we are here and in one piece. The weather has been a wee bit off for a couple of days but I won’t moan, I keep reading you are in for an arctic blast. Let me know how you get on with that. I’m a bit concerned about little Ralphie and his sisters, I know they are here. I could have sworn I seen a little green limb hanging out of my suitcase. I’ll let you know how I get on with that. |
AuthorI enjoy writing short stories and reading yours. I'm always amazed at where our mind can take us. I think it is therapeutic to let your mind wander off and free itself of personal drudgery. Archives
